Just 18 km from the Blue & Green Masurian Hotel, there is one of the best-preserved war quarters from World War II – the bunker complex in Mamerki.
Hidden among the Masurian forests, on the western shore of the Masurian Canal, Mamerki offers contact with a unique historical heritage and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century. This is a place where monumental military architecture meets museum storytelling, modern exhibitions, and... the legend of the Amber Room.
Why visit Mamerki?
Mamerki is a former headquarters complex of the German Army High Command (OKH), which between 1940 and 1944 served as the center for planning military operations of the Third Reich on the Eastern Front. On an area of over 200 hectares, about 250 objects were arranged, including more than 30 massive reinforced concrete bunkers that have remained almost intact to this day. Importantly, they were never captured or destroyed, making Mamerki a true rarity on a European scale.
While touring the complex, you can follow a specially prepared educational trail leading through the most interesting objects – from command bunkers, through warehouses, to technical shelters. Some of these contain museum exhibits presenting, among other things, military equipment, documents, maps, and interior reconstructions.
A must-see attraction is the observation tower, which offers a panoramic view of Lake Mamry and the surrounding forests. For fans of puzzles and thrilling history, Mamerki has prepared a special exhibition dedicated to the Amber Room – the legendary hall lost during the war, whose location was also searched for in this area. Inside one of the bunkers, you can see a 1:1 scale reconstruction of the room, created based on preserved photos and documentation. This attraction combines factual history with legend and attracts hordes of tourists fascinated by the mysteries of the Third Reich.
Mamerki – opening hours and ticket prices
The Mamerki bunker complex is open to visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. However, hours may vary depending on the month and weather conditions, so it is worth checking current information on the official website or social media before your visit.
Ticket prices (in the 2025 season):
- adults – 32 PLN,
- children and youth – 27 PLN,
- group tickets for adults – 20 PLN,
- group tickets for children and youth – 15 PLN.
The ticket price includes entrance to the museum, access to the bunker trail, the observation tower, and the Amber Room exhibition. On site, guides, parking, restrooms, and a souvenir shop are also available.
